I am passionate about designing for a future climate now, integrating the public realm into architecture to create a harmonious blend between indoor and outdoor environments.
With this project being set in 2050 Sheffield, the environment faces huge threats. It has been predicted by researchers that the natural world will undergo a period of decay until the 22nd Century when populations will begin to stabilise at approximately 10 billion. It is at this point in time when the environment regains its chance of survival as population factors no longer push against it. However, there is a great risk that by the year 2100, too little wildlife will remain to be restored.
Therefore, my project seeks to protect certain species during the period of environmental decay by becoming home to endangered native animals such as the white-clawed crayfish and an array of other wildlife. Once the 22nd century commences, the protected species can be gradually released to integrate once again with society and become one with the city and the people.
