Striving towards sustainability and inclusive design.

Final Year Project

Cultural Community Centre

The South Asian Cultural Centre is a vibrant hub dedicated to celebrating and preserving the rich and diverse cultural heritage of South Asia. Located in the cultural district of Sheffield, the centre serves as a gathering place for people of all backgrounds to engage with the traditions, arts, and histories.

The centre offers a variety of programmes and activities, such as traditional music and dance performances, art exhibitions, language classes, and culinary workshops. It also hosts festivals and cultural events that showcase the unique customs and festivities of different South Asian regions.

Ground Floor Plan

Through its initiatives, the South Asian Cultural Centre aims to promote intercultural understanding and foster a sense of pride and identity. It provides a welcoming environment where people can connect with their roots, share their stories, and build a supportive community.

Patterns are a visual representation of cultural identity and heritage. Incorporating patterns into the South Asian Cultural Centre’s offerings not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of its programmes but also deepens the cultural engagement and educational impact for visitors. These patterns act as a bridge connecting people to the rich heritage of South Asia, ensuring that these traditional art forms continue to thrive and inspire future generations.

Housing Typology in 2050

A lack of government commitment and unmet strategic targets causes the rise in inequality in the year 2050. This disproportionately affects families and children. Many underprivileged families in Sheffield are forced to reside in deprived areas, lacking access to quality resources such as affordable accommodation and community-centric amenities.

My design proposal aims to foster interaction and community among families and children.
The design draws inspiration from mixed-use developments that currently exist, combining commercial and residential floors. It innovatively integrates inclusive spaces to encourage a sense of community, which the current form lacks. The key objective of my design is to encourage interaction between families and children through in-built communal activity zones. These zones will create a buzz and help avoid social isolation through designs with maximum exposure to each other.

Work Experience

I successfully completed a 12-month placement at JSA Architects in Maidenhead, Berkshire from July 2022 to July 2023. I had the opportunity to work on various residential and commercial projects, furthering my understanding of planning policies and building regulations.
