I am a dedicated student that is passionate about design and model making. Whilst completing my undergraduate architecture course I have refined my presentation skills; this page is a brief look into some of my favourite Part C work.
My P3 studio project comprised of me designing a homeless rehabilitation and upskilling centre in the heart of Manchester’s innovation district. The outcome of narrative and concept development, alongside the identification and adaptation of the project site, led to the creation of an architecture that juxtaposes both fluid and angular structures.
The concept for the project is a juxtaposition of atmospheres, whereby the public are placed in the shoes of the everyday homeless demographic, within spaces that are harsh, and the homeless in need are positioned in the spaces that are far softer and more comfortable, both in terms of materiality and form.
Concept development was tied alongside my narrative development within this project, and the foundation from which I built my programme was based of off the required spaces needed for a range of homeless demographics.
My design studio P2 project spanned over 4 weeks and the brief consisted of exploring atmospheres using innovative materials, in order to create a pop up space that is also positioned in the Manchester innovation district.
The project gave me the opportunity to research the possibilities of bamboo as a material and explore its ability to create forms of varying scale, enticing a range of user emotions.
The outcome of the project was the creation of a pop up charity shop and elderly centre that is positioned on a main circulation route, allowing anyone to interact with it on a daily basis. I produced a developed fold out style drawing and a large 1:25 model that imitated the large atrium atmosphere, designed to entice intrigue in people passing by, in turn drawing them into the structure.
My dissertation combined my interest in phenomenology alongside my love of film, with a focus on understanding the qualities that give an environment a ‘homely feeling,’ and using this research to create a criteria to assess depictions of future home environments in Science-fiction cinema.
The findings drawn allowed me to create a holistic conclusion as to the considerations that should be taken when designing the homes of the future, ensuring that that are functional, whilst also ensuring the inhabitants feel it is a place in which they can comfortably dwell.
